New Feedback Reflection Activity

Teachfloor is thrilled to introduce the latest enhancement to our course curriculum: the Feedback Reflection tool. This innovative addition is part of our commitment to foster a more engaging and interactive learning environment, encouraging deep reflection and constructive peer interaction.

What is Feedback Reflection?

Feedback Reflection is a cutting-edge assessment tool that instructors can seamlessly integrate into their courses. It represents the final, crucial phase of a three-step peer learning activity.

The process begins with students submitting their work, which can vary in format from text to audio or video files.

Following this, the Peer Review phase ensues, wherein students evaluate the submissions of their peers based on criteria set by the instructor.

The process culminates in the Feedback Reflection stage, where students have the opportunity to ponder over the feedback they've received, thereby closing the loop of the peer learning process.

Customizable Feedback Rubric

Feedback Reflection

To enhance the effectiveness of this tool, instructors have the flexibility to create a custom feedback rubric. Teachfloor provides two default questions to kickstart this process: an open-ended question, "What did you learn from the feedback you received?" and a text scale question, "Evaluate the overall helpfulness of the feedback". This structure prompts students to introspect deeply and internalize the feedback, transforming it into a personal learning experience.

Process for Participants

The process is intuitive and enriching. After completing the peer review, students proceed to the Feedback Reflection phase. Here, they engage with the feedback they've received, using the instructor's rubric as a guide. This reflection is crucial for students to understand different perspectives and learn from their peers. Instructors can then access and review these reflections through the assessment page, providing them with valuable insights into the learning dynamics of their class.

Benefits of Feedback Reflection

  • Enhanced Learning: By reflecting on peer feedback, students develop a deeper understanding of the subject matter.
  • Improved Critical Thinking: Engaging in this reflective process fosters critical analysis and self-awareness.
  • Better Alignment with Learning Goals: The tool helps students align their learning process with the course's objectives and outcomes.

Significance Supported by Research

Feedback Reflection's impact on learning is underlined by educational research emphasizing the importance of reflection in the learning process. Studies indicate that reflection on feedback is key to converting peer insights into personal knowledge, thereby enhancing the learning experience.

The introduction of the Feedback Reflection tool on Teachfloor marks a significant step towards enriching the peer learning experience. We are excited to see how instructors and students leverage this tool to deepen their understanding and enhance the educational journey.

We look forward to your valuable feedback on this new feature and are eager to witness its innovative applications in your courses.

Introducing Self Review: A New Tool in Teachfloor’s Course Curriculum

Teachfloor is excited to announce the launch of a new assessment tool within our course curriculum - the Self Review feature.

This innovative functionality is designed to enhance the learning process by empowering students to evaluate their own work. Self-assessment has been found to be incredibly beneficial for student learning, as supported by extensive research.

What is Self Review?

Self Review is an assessment tool that instructors can incorporate into their course curriculum. It allows students to engage in self-evaluation, fostering a deeper understanding and awareness of their own work. This tool can function independently or be linked with a submission, providing flexibility and adaptability to different teaching methodologies.

Customizable Feedback Rubric:

Self Review

Instructors have the option to tailor the self-assessment process. They can edit the feedback rubric to include various types of questions such as open-ended, numeric rating, or text scale. This customization enables instructors to align the self-assessment with specific course objectives and learning outcomes.

Process for Participants:

The process is straightforward yet impactful. Students submit their work and then, instead of evaluating their peers' submissions, they engage in self-assessment of their own work. This process is facilitated through the feedback rubric created by the instructor. Instructors can then view all the self-reviews submitted by students in the assessment page.

Benefits of Self Review:

  • Enhanced Understanding: Students gain a deeper comprehension of the subject matter through self-evaluation.
  • Critical Evaluation Skills: Engaging in self-assessment helps students develop the ability to critically analyze their own work.
  • Alignment with Grading Criteria: Students become more attuned to the grading criteria used by instructors, aiding in their overall academic development.

Scientific Research Supporting Self Review:

The significance of this feature is further underscored by the research of Philip M. Sadler and Eddie Good in "The Impact of Self-and Peer-Grading on Student Learning." This study highlights how self and peer grading positively impacts student learning outcomes, enhances critical thinking, and promotes a more active and engaged learning approach.

The introduction of the Self Review feature on Teachfloor is a step towards more interactive and self-driven learning experiences. We encourage instructors and students alike to utilize this tool to maximize the learning potential and achieve a more comprehensive understanding of course materials.

We eagerly await your feedback on this new feature and look forward to seeing the innovative ways it will be used in your courses.

Peer Review 2.0

We are excited to announce the release of Peer Review 2.0 on Teachfloor, a significant update that enhances the functionality and flexibility of peer review activities within our courses.

What's New in Peer Review 2.0?

  • Separate Activity Element: Unlike the previous version where Submission and Peer Review were combined, Peer Review is now an independent element. This separation offers trainers greater flexibility in structuring course activities.
  • Connectivity with Other Activities: Peer Review can be linked not only with a Submission Activity but will soon also integrate with a Feedback Reflection activity (coming soon). This allows for diverse activity flows like Submission + Peer Review + Feedback Reflection, or just Submission + Peer Review.
  • Improved Allocation Algorithm: A new allocation algorithm ensures that every student who submits work is guaranteed at least one peer review. This feature enhances fairness and engagement in the peer review process.

Enhancing the Learning Experience:

Peer Review 2.0 allows students to critically evaluate their peers' work using a customizable feedback rubric. Trainers can tailor these rubrics to meet the specific needs and objectives of their course, making the peer review process more relevant and impactful.

Benefits of Updated Peer Review:

  • Flexibility in Course Design: Trainers have more control over the structure and flow of course activities.
  • Enhanced Student Engagement: Ensuring every submission is reviewed fosters a more inclusive and interactive learning environment.
  • Customized Feedback: The ability to create tailored feedback rubrics aligns evaluations more closely with course goals.

This update is part of our ongoing commitment to providing a dynamic and efficient learning platform. We believe Peer Review 2.0 will significantly improve the peer assessment process, making it more streamlined, fair, and beneficial for both students and trainers.

We’re eager to hear your feedback on Peer Review 2.0 and see the innovative ways you integrate it into your courses.

Submission and Peer Review Activity

In the world of online education, the power of peer review is indisputable. It promotes critical thinking, encourages diverse perspectives, and nurtures the art of constructive feedback—all vital aspects of effective learning. At Teachfloor, we've long recognized this, and today, we're thrilled to introduce an expansion of our peer learning activities.

Teachfloor a Peer Review LMS

We start with Submission & Peer Discussion, a feature deeply integrated into Teachfloor's peer review offerings. Within this environment, learners engage in chat-style peer reviews—an open, organic, and dynamic exchange of thoughts, observations, and insights on their peers' work. It's all about promoting free-flowing dialogues and nurturing rich idea exchange without the confines of a rubric.

In addition, we introduce today the new Submission & Peer Review. This feature brings structure to peer evaluation—a valuable asset when precise assessment and feedback alignment are paramount. Instructors can define specific questions and criteria, ensuring feedback accurately aligns with the course objectives.

Choice and Flexibility

With both Submission & Peer Discussion and Submission & Peer Review within your reach, you have the flexibility to choose the approach that best suits your course's distinct needs. Whether it's the spontaneity of discussion-based learning or the precision of structured assessment, Teachfloor provides you with the tools to create tailored and impactful learning experiences.

A Closer Look at How it Functions

The Submission & Peer Review activity seamlessly integrates into the Teachfloor platform, offering a structured approach to peer learning:

Submission Activity: Learners commence by submitting their work, which may encompass written responses or file uploads (including video, audio, or PDFs).

Peer Review: Once submissions are complete, the peer review process begins. Learners are tasked with evaluating the work of their peers. This evaluation serves a dual purpose—providing learners with the opportunity to assess others' contributions while refining their own understanding through constructive assessment.

Feedback Rubric: Instructors can tailor the peer review process by setting specific questions for reviewers to answer. These questions may range from open-ended queries to numeric ratings, text scales, yes/no responses, or informational sections. This flexibility ensures that feedback aligns precisely with the course's objectives.

Reflection: Following the peer review phase, learners engage in a reflection step. This post-review contemplation is instrumental for self-assessment and growth, enhancing the overall learning journey.
